May 12th, 2020
Parents and Seniors:
I am pleased to announce that Winfield City High School will be able to host graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 22nd, at 6:30 p.m., on the original date and time, with a few modifications. Our senior class will graduate together in one session at Estes Hudson Stadium. In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be moved to Saturday, May 23rd. You will be notified individually with specific details about the graduation ceremony. We are excited for the Class of 2020 and their families.
There are guidelines that we will have to follow in order to ensure the safety of our faculty, students, parents and guests. The ceremonies must be held in compliance with the Alabama Department of Public Health and Governor Kay Ivey’s Safer at Home Order, and they are as follows:
- Ceremonies must be held at a facility that allows a distance of six feet between families.
- Family members of the same household may sit together without regard to the social distancing requirements.
- Attendees are encouraged to wear face coverings. Graduates my also wear face coverings if they are more comfortable doing so.
- Social distancing is to be observed before, during and after ceremony, while on school campus.
In order to remain compliant to with the guidelines of facility use outlined by the ADPH, each student will be allowed to receive 6 tickets for their guests. We ask that you use social distancing guidelines set forth by the ADPH upon entering the field, and be patient as we dismiss you by groups at the end of the ceremony. More information regarding guest tickets and ceremonial programs will be announced by school administrators. We are excited for this opportunity to honor our Class of 2020, but we are also very concerned about the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and parents during this pandemic. Even though some restrictions from the ADPH have been eased, we are still at risk of contracting Covid-19 if we are not cautious, so we ask that you please follow our requests. We look forward to celebrating our Class of 2020 on Friday, May 22nd.
Sincerely,
Chris Cook, Superintendent
